Ongoing programs
In FY24 Calgary Opera produced three main stage productions (including a Calgary premiere) a holiday production and a virtual School Tour viewed by more than 47 500 students. The organization’s McPhee Artist Development Program returned for its 17th year providing extensive training and exceptional performance opportunities for eight young singers. In FY24 Calgary Opera produced three main stage productions (including a Calgary premiere) a holiday production and a virtual School Tour viewed by more than 47 500 students. The organization’s McPhee Artist Development Program returned for its 17th year providing extensive training and exceptional performance opportunities for eight young singers. Calgary Opera also continued to offer impactful education and community engagement programming through the programs Let’s Create an Opera Community Ambassadors Opera 212 Students Only Dress Rehearsal and Masterclasses. 230 volunteers (including its 17 Board Members) working more than 1400 hours assisted Calgary Opera to offer these programs.
New programs
Calgary Opera added several new events and activities in FY24 including 10 performances in Calgary Stampede’s Grandstand Show for over 120 000 people. An additional 1100 individuals attended other new activities offered. These included an event for Calgary’s Chinook Blast festival that featured performances of 'story play-alongs' using stories commissioned by Calgary Opera from artists of Zambian Indian Ukrainian and Cree backgrounds a Cabaret the late night opera party and immersive experience Wonderland and an added matinee performance of The Elixir of Love on the Southern Alberta Jubil… Show more
