Kinvia

Kinvia previously known as Canadian Feed The Children is an international non-governmental organization supporting children youth and their communities in overcoming systemic barriers to their rights to nutritious and culturally appropriate food since 1986. The organization works with local partners internationally and with Indigenous communities across Canada to impact all areas of nourishment at all stages of their lives including income generation education gender equality racial justice and climate impacts. These include: 1) Food sovereignty initiatives in partnership with Indigenous communities in Canada 2) Gender equality programs supporting girls’ health and education and women’s livelihoods 3) Climate-adaptive and market-led agricultural business incubation that boost agricultural production and income 4) Community resilience building enabling families and communities to withstand climate and other stressors for long-term sustainable economic development

Kinvia won approximately $35 000 to complete a study to select the most sustainable 365- day growing unit for our Indigenous partners communities. The study led by a consultant formed part of Kinvia’s Indigenous Programs and Partnerships' Stage 3 proposal for the Type 2 Diabetes Challenge from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) in partnership with Impact Canada. Due to the success of the study Kinvia acquired an additional $600 000 for the implementation of the program in six Indigenous communities in June 2024. The project will tackle key barriers to type 2 diabetes prevention such as limited access to affordable nutrient-dense food and short growing seasons.
