HARVEY MEMORIAL COMMUNITY CENTRE INC.

The Harvey Memorial Community Centre Inc. operates a community-based centre for recreational and social activities for all age groups serving the Harvey Rural Community encompassing most of the school catchment boundaries. Certain activities include but are not limited to: community recreational groups use the gymnasium for sporting activities such as basketball badminton pickleball community celebration activities and social gathering. There is also an arena building used for community celebration activities and competitions during the summer months and ice rink activities including skating for the public and primary and elementary school skating an under 12 hockey skills program group rentals and recreational hockey rentals. Other excess space rentals include municipal office space. The space is also commonly used for community meetings and gatherings. All activities are carried out by volunteers and by one or two a parttime attendants to operate the bowling centre as needed. Other activities include fundraising events such as raffles draws to support on-going operational costs are carried out regularly by members of the board and community volunteers.

There have been some financial challenges coming out of the Covid 19 restrictions but there exciting moments with a very successful Saint Patties Dance that attracted a sold out crowd. It was a mixed crowd with young adults and seniors getting out to socialize and enjoy themselves. Exercise groups are popular with a HIT class in gymnasium and an amazing capacity turnout for the seniors class twice a week. Bowling has returned with a seniors group and men's league operating. The other 2 leagues have not returned but we have a couple league tournaments and are trying to generate usage for private recreational and elementary school use. We do look forward to utilizing the new 18000 square foot concrete floor in the arena to provide new weather proof activities and special events and community activities in the off season. A summer youth lacrosse league will be using the facility which is a first in the area.
