MOOSE LAKE GOSPEL CAMP

Moose Lake Gospel Camp's (MLGC) Mission is: 'to be a place of retreat and outreach anchored in the life-transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Our mission is to create a camp environment where anyone can start or deepen their relationship with Christ find rest in nature escape the distractions of daily life and enjoy the company of other believers.' MLGC begins its year with a Work Bee on the May long-weekend; volunteers participate in tasks to get the camp up and running-volunteers are housed and fed. The annual Men's Retreat takes place on a weekend in June. This camp offers both adult and youth (gr 7-12) males a weekend for prayer meditation and study. Jr Teen Camp-a one week camp for gr 7-9 offers youth the opportunity to connect with peers join in water and sports activities crafts and games as well as evening campfires. Children's Camp for ages 8-11 may be a child's first experience with an overnight camp on their own. They begin lifelong friendships and feel a boost in self-confidence within a safe and supportive community. They enjoy games such as trampolining box hockey archery canoeing boating along with evening campfires. The two family camps allow families to enjoy nature together; they meet or create family friendships while participating in worship fun activities and evening campfires. These camps all provide camp-cooked meals for participants. Wholehearted camping was started during the pandemic and continues. It is a more traditional camping experience but on MLGC grounds with all its amenities. There is no set programming or meals provided. Participants book the dates suitable for them and choose their own activities. The above are the various camp programs operated at MLGC during the summers. MLGC would be unable to offer these programs without the assistance of approximately 45 volunteers. The actual hours donated by these volunteers is difficult to ascertain. The camps are 6 days long and the campers are there for 24/hours/day. A couple volunteered as Camp Managers. Another person was hired as Interim Executive Director with an Intern Executive Director hired to assist them. Another couple volunteered to be the Camp cooks for the summer months. MLGC Board applied to Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) to co-pay several positions. Two positions were granted. This allowed MLGC to assist two youth with a summer job while having their assistance for the entire camp season.
