SASKATCHEWAN MUSIC FESTIVAL ASSOCIATION INC.

To promote music and spoken word by providing performance and educational opportunities in 47 annual district festival locations for aspiring musicians of all ages. Participants compete in voice piano strings woodwind brass/percussion pipe & electronic organ choral/school music classes including specialized classes multi-cultural spoken word ensembles band and orchestral classes as set out in the Provincial Syllabus. Member festivals are organized by local volunteers and judged by qualified professional musicians. The SMFA supports member festivals as they provide relevant programming through the following: • Promote SMFA as an important cultural movement in the province of Saskatchewan through website social media advertisements press releases annual reports newsletter brochures signage and speaking engagements. • Obtain and maintain Association funding as a Provincial Cultural Organization • Maintain the SMFA Provincial website • Compile design and distribute an Annual Report which includes Audited Financial Statements and district festivals’ yearly reports and detailed reports of all SMFA Programs. • Hire and liaise with adjudicators according to each Festival’s needs. Over 170 professional musicians are hired each year. • Provides member funding • President and Executive Director act as arbitrators for District Festivals in conflict. • Provide opportunity for young musicians in our province to progress from District to Provincial to Canada West levels of competition. • Publish a Provincial Syllabus • Concerto Competition 1979 to provide a forum for serious senior students to compete every two years for the opportunity to be featured as a guest soloist with the Regina Symphony Orchestra (RSO) and Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra (SSO) in addition to cash ($3 250) prizes. • Opera competition to support young Saskatchewan singers for possible careers in the operatic world. Unique to Canada Saskatchewan singers have the opportunity to compete every two years for a $5 000 award for further study in a recognized opera program and the opportunity to be featured with the Regina & Saskatoon Symphony Orchestras. • SMFA Conference and AGM for festival volunteers to come together for a weekend of networking informative sessions roundtable discussions and Annual General Meeting. • Host Provincial competitions yearly (4 days in June) and Canada West Performing Arts Festival every three years (3 days in July).
