ST DAVID'S PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

We have weekly church services with after church coffee-time with home-made goodies allowing our congregation to mingle and introduce themselves to any newcomers or visitors. Our seniors program Good Companions operates weekly from Sept to June allowing seniors to meet for fellowship and lawn bowling or bridge and a light lunch. We are connected with the local Food Sharing Association - Bridge to Hope (BTH) whereby we collect food donations each week and once a year have a food drive in our parking lot. Each Christmas we donate and prepare 40+ Christmas hampers to donate to the Food Sharing Network with our own people plus with volunteers from the local community. We have a Prayer Shawl Ministry where a group meet once a month and they knit throughout the month producing shawls baby blankets socks mitts and caps which are given out to those who are sick to newborns and at Christmas included with those hampers. Our quilters group has disbanded but their supply of quilts allows us to present a quilt or baby blanket for each of our baptisms and for blankets to local hospitals dialysis units and treatment centers. We have an active women's group called the Woman's Association (WA) who meet monthly plan the church's annual events and run a successful Bridge Party to raise funds for the church. There is a weekly Bible Study group who meet on Wednesdays for prayer Bible study and fellowship. Our church has a branch of the Atlantic Missionary Society (AMS) who meet monthly for Bible study and fellowship. Several years ago we started a 'Wheels to Worship' program for some of our new Canadian families allowing them to get to church or other functions by taxi. In 2018 we started a 'muffin-making-mania' group who now several Mondays through the year to make chocolate chip or blueberry muffins for our local food bank for distribution for their school break program. The News from the Pews a monthly newsletter is distributed to our seniors in their homes is issued to those who have email and is available on our website. It contains a minister's message treasurer's report a section on What could you do for your church? (seeking volunteers for projects) a list of birthdays anniversaries and graduations news and pictures 'from the pews' . The Futures group continues with their work attracting newcomers to the church.

2025 is the 250th anniversary of our church. It was started in 1775 by a member of the British forces stationed in St. John's as the 'First Dissenting Church of Christ in ST. John's'. We started a 250th Anniversary Committee to plan for 2025 including various visits special activities including the firing of a cannon food drive banquet presentation at 'The Rooms' a visit from the PCC moderator and help for BTH for summer snacks for kids out of school for the summer and a soup-a-thon where we will feed the first 250 people who show up at the church. The minister has also started a 'Reading of the Bible' from start to finish including sermons which are available on the website.
