Friends of the Ottawa Public Library (FOPLA) are strong advocates for the Ottawa Public Library and take every opportunity to raise awareness of its programs and services to the general public. FOPLA is over 99% volunteer-run and operates with the help of more than 240 Ottawa community members. Friends of the Ottawa Public Library (FOPLA) are strong advocates for the Ottawa Public Library and take every opportunity to raise awareness of its programs and services to the general public. FOPLA is over 99% volunteer-run and operates with the help of more than 240 Ottawa community members. Volunteers operate and manage low cost bookstores and self-serve bookshelves in the libraries and run Mini-Mammoth book sales throughout the year selling used books. Some of the ways revenues were used in 2024 to build stronger libraries and communities included 1) purchasing furniture and community programming supplies 2) delivering and supporting community development and outreach and 3) supporting the annual Awesome Authors youth writing contest.
