The Craft Council promotes a high standard of excellence in craft production and services to its membership that contributes to the stability of the sector in the province as well as the general public annually. We strive to support this goal as an organization while continuing to play a key role in supporting craft producers through educational and professional development activities. Over 600 members of the council are keeping the traditions alive and relevant creating both functional and decorative items that span across various disciplines. The Council is a voluntary charitable organization with professional staff members who support the board of directors and the numerous standing committees that make up the provinces wide mandate of the councils operations. Annually we have about 30-50 volunteers that log approx 450 hours of volunteer time to support the organizations activities. The Craft Council endevours to be a leader in the peservation of Craft practacies in the Province and programming is created to allow for the protection of craft practices that are no longer active. We do this by holding workshops and artists talks that support this mandate and to help ensure that traditional practices are not lost and revived.
New programs
Artist talks and workshops have been increased to add diversity to educational programming and reach a new audiance. An international FIbre Arts Conference is in the works for the fall of 2024 that will provide a multiday program of professional development opportunites that are in demand across the province. The Craft Council has tested new educational and support programs for craft-based Artists and entreprenures that provide them with the experience needed to generate opportunites outside of the provice.
