NORTH VANCOUVER COMMUNITY ARTS COUNCIL

North Vancouver Community Arts Council delivered 22 visual arts exhibitions within three gallery locations (CityScape Community ArtSpace North Vancouver District Foyer Lynn Valley Library) all of which continue to have free admission to the public. These exhibitions provided showcasing opportunities for 60 artists. We produced two annual events; the 25th year of Arts in the Garden a community arts festival which showcased 43 creative musicians visual and performing artists and The North Shore Art Crawl a self guided studio tour supporting over 100 artisans living within our community. We continue to run Art Rental where original artworks from local 2D visual artists are rented out at accessible and affordable prices to individuals businesses and corporations. This program provides monetary support and showcasing opportunities to local artists. Camp Creative summer camps for children 6-11 years old returned this year offering creative learning to local families. We also continue to offer Rhythm & Word and Art & Mycology - two therapy based programs housed at Mountainside Secondary and worked with the City of North Vancouver for a music based teen summer camp. To promote lifelong learning we continued to offer a number of different adult art workshops including popular 2-hour workshop 'Date Nights'. The Culture Compass continues to be offered and updated as a resource for discovering local cultural assets. Over 1581 volunteer hours help support these programs.

First Nations Category - Culture Compass We have been working with Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh nation to add Indigenous placenames stories and Coast Salish artworks to the Culture Compass under a First Nations Category. Within this program we also developed Animal Flashcards for each Nation’s language to promote the recognition and awareness of these languages within our community. Culture Compass App We have begun the development of a Culture Compass Treasure Hunt App with the goal of increasing engagement with a wide range of Arts and Culture organizations and locations across the North Shore. The app will do this by gamified learning through interactive digital scavenger hunts based on our current cultural mapping assets.
