Vancouver Monthly Meeting of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers)

Weekly meeting for worship for all members casual attenders and new inquireres at the Vancouver meetinghouse. Worship groups at other points in the Lower Mainland (monthly). Occasional outreach meetings to provide informational and inspirational opportunities to our neighbours in the community. Meetinghouse made available to community groups on a donation basis for programs compatible with our goals - this year local music societies some smaller faith groups without their own space were our main community users Support for ongoing programs of wider Quaker bodies in Canada and internationally. This fiscal year our Refugee Committee continues to support refugee families from Afghanistan who have come to Canada through the 'Special Immigration Measures Program for Afghans who assisted the Government of Canada'. We've fully equipped 98 homes with furniture kitchenware household supplies and clothing for family members. We've assisted with registering all eligible family members for school. We've helped locate English test centres and taken adults to their English assessments. for the LINC English classes and helped pay for a limited number of bus tickets and bus passes so some f the adults can take English classes. We've also assisted the families with getting medical appointments at the New Canadian Clinic in Surrey Our Reconciliation Committee has continued to be engaged in making our community more conscious of the ongoing legacy of colonialism and in reaching out to build connections with local First Nations; Our international program support for school children in Chatamiilu Kenya in the form of scholarships for secondary and post secondary education has continued this year under our formal agency agreement with KSOW (Kanyawegi Support for Orphans and Widows - Kenya); the agreement and details records are available upon request.
