THE YUKON TRANSPORTATION MUSEUM SOCIETY

Mission: Our mission is to tell stories of Yukoners' ingenuity and self-sufficiency through the history of transportation in the Yukon. Mandate: Our mandate is to identify acquire preserve and conserve the history cultural material and artifacts of Yukon's transportation modes and to interpret this history in an educational manner for all Yukoners and visitors alike. Activities: As a history and culture museum we are open year-round in a northern community where many businesses and organizations are seasonal. We have a small permanent team that often balloons to nearly 10 employees during the busy summer months. We provide several rental rooms to the general public during our off-season and we put on live events throughout the year partnering with a variety of groups including Queer Yukon Yukonstruct Japanese Canadian Association of Yukon Kluane Quilters Guild and Kwanlin Dun Cultural Centre. We regularly run specific programming for daycares school groups and seniors and we endeavor to have volunteers from the community help us catalogue artifacts research stories and run events.

Videos include: Timer Elevation Map Yukon Historical Facts Route Map The Yukon Pilots and Aircraft Recognition Program bench is a unique way to honour a remarkable pilot in your life. For a donation a plaque is installed on the bench that sits under the Canadian Pacific Airlines DC-3 Wind Vane in front of the Yukon Transportation Museum (YTM) in Whitehorse Yukon Canada. This program is available to anyone who would like to special mention a Yukon Pilot and their aircraft. There are no accomplishments required to receive a plaque. This program can also be a tribute to honour one or more persons in memoriam a service club or an individual for their community contribution or recognition for past or current projects or special events. Gerry Whitley created the Yukon Pilots and Aircraft Recognition Program with two goals: to recognize the special relationship between pilots and their aircraft as a fundraiser for the Yukon Transportation Museum.
