Ongoing programs

The Dorothy Ley Hospice has two main purposes: a community support program where we provide support in people's homes and; a residential care program where we provide 24-hour care in a home-like environment during people's last weeks of life. The Dorothy Ley Hospice has two main purposes: a community support program where we provide support in people's homes and; a residential care program where we provide 24-hour care in a home-like environment during people's last weeks of life. With our community support program we provide care coordination and in-home support to individuals diagnosed with a life-limiting illness who live in Etobicoke and West Toronto. Using an integrated approach we work with community organizations and health care partners to meet the physical emotional spiritual and support needs of people with a life limiting illness and their families. Our services include care coordination information referral & navigation palliative physician care at home spiritual care in-home volunteer support wellness respite day program and grief and bereavement care. Our hospice residence was built with the generous support of our community and opened in 2009. In our 12 bed residence we offer 24-hour care in a home-like environment. The residential care program offers end-of-life care that focuses on quality of life through holistic pain and symptom management and support with a focus on helping individuals have the best quality of life. We care for over 2000 people a year. Volunteers are an integral part of the Hospice and critical to our provision of services. Over 200 volunteers donate more than 12500 hours of their time every year.

New programs

The demand for hospices services has increased. We have implemented a number of new programs with the support of our donors. These include several wellness counseling and education services (Yoga wellness day program distance healing self compassion circle grief and loss education parental and spousal loss groups grief walking group and other support groups. .
