VOLUNTEER TERRACE

Volunteer Terrace has seniors programs and Volunteer Programs. Under our Senior's programs we have the Better at Home Helping Handyman Friendly Visitor Snow Angel Santa for Seniors and other social activities such as chair yoga painting etc. Since Service Canada has significantly stopped doing many services in person we are now helping people to fill out their EI claims sign up for My Canada Account Pension Plans and many other services that are no longer offered. Under our volunteer programs we have our general program helping people to find volunteer opportunities either with Volunteer Terrace or other organizations that need volunteers. We do pre-screening such as interviewing and Criminal Record checks as well as train other agencies how best to manage their own volunteer programs. We help small nonprofits with learning how to start a society board training and many other services that nonprofits need to do to become a registered charity. We also have the Terrace Restorative Justice program with approximately 20 volunteers at any given time training in CJF (Community Justice Forums) Peace Making Circles Victim Offender Conferencing - currently we are working towards having Restorative Justice in the schools as well.

Volunteer Terrace recently began two new programs Caregiving for Seniors and our Youth Leadership and Resiliency Program. Caregivers for Seniors was developed to provide low-income seniors with caregivers that would normally be a 'for-profit' business. Volunteer Terrace believes that all seniors are entitled to have the ability to live in their homes for as long as possible regardless of their financial situation. We provide them any nonmedical services that they need help with. Some of our seniors pay nothing other pay a very nominal amount based on their annual income. Our Youth Leadership and Resiliency program is to address the overrepresentation of Indigenous and Black people in the criminal justice system. This program provides programming for at-risk and high-risk youth with social activities and guidance (not counselling) emphasizing land based healing. This program is for youth between the ages of 4 to 24 and plans all programs through the lens of restorative justice and community. Giving youth the opportunity to grow and develop but also have a voice in decisions that are being made about their lives.
