The York Chamber Ensemble performs classical chamber music from the sixteenth to twenty-first centuries. The ensemble rehearses for six Tuesday evenings before a public concert performance. Members of the ensemble are volunteer except for the Music Director and Concertmaster who ensure that the artistic merit of the group is of highest qualities for performances. The York Chamber Ensemble also often invites qualified local artists as soloists to participate in concerts and showcase their talents. The York Chamber Ensemble also endeavors to develop and increase the skills of young musicians through weekly rehearsals with the ensemble led by the Music Director and supported by the Concertmaster. The skills gained during rehearsals will provide the opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning at public performances.
