THE HERITAGE CENTRE FEATURES BOTH PERMANENT AND TEMPORARY EXHIBITS WHICH PRESERVE DISPLAY AND PROVIDE EDUCATION ABOUT THE HISTORY OF WATROUS MANITOU BEACH AND SURROUNDING AREA. THE CENTRE IS OPEN YEAR ROUND AND OFFERS TOURS TO VISITORS COMMUNITY GROUPS AND SCHOOL CLASSES. VOLUNTEERS UNDERTAKE TO CATALOGUE AND CARE FOR THE COLLECTIONS. VOLUNTEERS ASSIST INQUIRIES OF A HERITAGE OR GENEALOGICAL NATURE. THE CENTRE COOPERATES WITH OTHER MUSEUMS AND LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUPS TO FEATURE AND SUPPORT PROGRAMMING.
New programs
THE HERITAGE CENTRE HAS BEGUN TO TAKE STEPS TO ANSWER THE CALLS TO ACTION OF THE TRUTH RECONCILIATION COMMISSION. A COMMITTEE FOR INDIGENOUS RELATIONS HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED. IN THE SUMMER OF 2024 A QUILT DISPLAY WAS HOSTED WHICH DEPICTS CALLS TO ACTION. A TRAVELING CREE LANGUAGE DISPLAY WAS HOSTED IN OCTOBER AND IN TANDEM WITH THAT WAS A SPEAKER/STORYTELLER WHO SPOKE TO THE LOCAL SCHOOLS AND A COMMUNITY EVENT. THE FALL SPEAKER SERIES WILL NOW BECOME A REGULAR EVENT.
