Ongoing programs
Health Justice uses research education and advocacy to improve the laws and policies that govern coercive mental health and substance use-related health care in BC. Our current priority is to better support human rights and well-being in involuntary mental health and substance use care by reforming BC’s Mental Health Act. Health Justice uses research education and advocacy to improve the laws and policies that govern coercive mental health and substance use-related health care in BC. Our current priority is to better support human rights and well-being in involuntary mental health and substance use care by reforming BC’s Mental Health Act. This includes research engagement and advocacy related to the gender-based impacts of coercive mental health care which will be used to educate public officials and contribute to laws and government policies in matters related to human rights. It also includes education and training program aimed at health care providers legal service providers and other service providers to educate them about the human rights impacts of coercive mental health care. Health Justice commenced research education and advocacy to improve the laws and policies that govern coercive mental health and substance use-related health care in BC under the Adult Guardianship Act.

This year Health Justice began a partnership to develop BC's Independent Rights Advice Services by leading work related to training engagement and educational resource development.
