The Canmore Summer Theatre Festival a ten-day two-show outdoor repertory theatre festival in which theatre professionals and volunteer community members share the stage. In 2024 the Festival included performances of Dracula: A Feminist Revenge Fantasy by Kate Hamill based on the novel by Bram Stoker directed by Shelby Reinitz and The Snow Queen by Charles Way based on the story by Hans Christian Andersen directed by Kelsey James. The Festival provided multiple benefits to the community: Community connection through the arts - The 2024 Festival gave 51 community members of all ages (with an average of 50% youth participation in the cast) a chance to collaborate learn explore and grow through the arts. Quality employment for local artists - The Festival engaged 12 emerging and professional theatre artists paying them $22 400. This is a significant investment in the arts community particularly for a small town like Canmore. Stimulate economic activity - The Festival is committed to supporting local business. Pine Tree Players spent $11 055 on goods and services from Bow Valley-based businesses. Mentorship for local youth and emerging artists - By engaging professional theatre artists the Festival provided local youth who are considering a career in the arts the opportunity to learn from emerging theatre professionals who are currently pursuing the same goals. In our post-production survey 87% of participants said they learned something new and 100% of participants said that they ‘Always’ or ‘Usually’ received the support required to be effective in their role. Affordable quality outdoor theatre for the Bow Valley Community - Festival offered a quality theatre experience to 988 audience members at affordable prices. In 2024 PTP awarded the Alan Hipkins Memorial Scholarship ($500) the Bob Snape Artstrek Scholarship ($750) the PTP Bow Valley Community Artstrek Scholarship ($750) and the Martin Finnerty Artstrek Scholarship ($750).
