Compassionate City Crew – Client Care Our trained volunteers provide in home care for people at end of life by helping with various tasks such as grocery pick up driving to appointments light cleaning etc. In addition to practical support we provide companionship and conversation to our clients. Our goal with each client is to create a network of support which begins with family and close friends. This circle of support helps the client stay home longer depending on individual medical situations. Our mission is for our community to become a Compassionate City to adopt a 'neighbor helping neighbor approach' so the circle of support reaches in beyond their own families. Walk & Talk Trained facilitators provide grief support during a group walk outdoors. Participants have a guided yet casual nature walk while sharing thoughts about death and loss. We are ready to restart this program once we source more volunteers. Voice for the Vulnerable Working with various homeless support organizations and Fraser Health we provide information and advance care planning for people experiencing homelessness. We have formed a simple system where a form is faxed with the person’s wishes that is entered into a main database by Fraser Health social worker. This information is linked to their health number so important details are available to all social workers and medical staff. This program is growing and changing as we obtain new information on how it would be most beneficial to the vulnerable population. Expressive Arts Therapy - Grief Support Program Our monthly expressive arts group provides a safe space to explore grief and loss share stories and support each other. Expressive arts is a therapeutic practice using a variety of modalities integrating healing practices with creative expression and imagination. Using art as an expressive tool we can create opportunities to open to deeper meaning within and develop new coping skills. No art experience necessary.
