We administer a post-secondary scholarship to a qualified student from Newfoundland and Labrador. Involves the creation of the application criteria the creation and management of an application form in this case an online form as well as the review evaluation and selection of a scholarship recipient. The board of directors will be responsible for each of these aspects of scholarship administration and have already approved the following application criteria. Applicants must: Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident Have graduated or be graduating this academic year from a Newfoundland and Labrador High School. Be applying to study at a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution in political science public policy governance or a related field in the Fall 2021. Applicants will be required to submit a 200 word personal statement outlining why they should be considered as well as a longer written assignment regarding a topical political issue as approved by the board. In addition applicants will be required to provide a copy of their resume or CV as well as proof of your acceptance at a recognized institution in the prescribed fields of study. Applications will only be accepted during a prescribed and publicly listed period during the academic year (September to June) as approved by the board. Once applications are received the board will convene and shall constitute the selection committee. Additional members may be added to the selection committee from outside the organization by unanimous vote of the board of directors. The selection committee will review all applications to ensure they meet the base eligibility requirements. Once the qualified pool of applicants is established the board will then evaluate the candidates based on their personal statement CV qualifications and their long format assignment. A unanimous decision of the selection committee shall be required to award the scholarship. In the unlikely event of a tie or deadlock amongst the selection committee the top two candidates shall be selected and their names shall be placed in a hat and a winner shall be drawn blindly by the Chair of the board of directors. In the event of a conflict or perceived conflict of interest between a selection committee member and an applicant that selection committee member shall recuse themselves from the selection committee.

New programs

The Morrison Scholarship has also organized several free and open to the public panel discussions with academics and community members to help promote the scholarship and to foster political discussion and greater civic engagement. The Morrison Scholarship has not undertaken any other activities or programs and has not incurred any additional financial costs beyond the administration of the scholarship.
