VANCOUVER AQUARIUM MARINE MAMMAL RESCUE SOCIETY

This is Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society's (VAMMR) first year of operations as a registered charity and is a global leader in marine mammal rescue research and rehabilitation. VAMMR responds to over 300 marine mammal emergencies each year and operate Canada's only dedicated marine mammal hospital facility. Our mission is: to rescue rehabilitate and release marine mammals in distress. As the only facility and program of its kind in Canada VAMMR is often the only hope for sick injured or orphaned marine animals in the Pacific Region. Animals needing onsite care are brought to the Rescue Centre where they receive world class care from the veterinary and volunteer teams. Many of the patients are pinnipeds but the Rescue Centre also treats Northern sea otters sea turtles and small cetaceans. VAMMR regularly collaborates with other partners to offer year-round emergency response and veterinary services for the full range of marine mammals in Canada’s Pacific Region. These marine mammals include SARA listed Steller sea lions and Northern sea otters and other key species impacted by coastal development fishing activities marine traffic and ocean pollution.
