Feeding Canadian Kids Society

Feeding Canadian Kids is the only Canadian federal registered charity solely focused on filling the dinner-gap for Canadian children. To date we have provided 180 000 nutritious dinners to kids who would have otherwise gone to bed hungry. Together our efforts result in Canadian children getting a good night’s sleep and a nourished body so they can do better at school and have brighter futures. Our team is made up of a variety of devoted professionals who offer their experience passion and network to support our needs. Our original Feeding Canadian Kids model was straightforward partnering with restaurants caterers delivery services and community volunteers to make nutritious meals and deliver them to food-insecure children at local after-school programs. Our 2019 pilot project with 12 restaurants and 12 after school programs provided over 30 000 healthy dinners to hungry children in underserved neighbourhoods across the GTA. The economic safety and social challenges surrounding the 2020 and 2021 closures propelled us to reinvent our original model and develop two new initiatives. Feeding Canadian Kids at Home came about thanks to a professional team of caters at KANVAS and their generous food suppliers as well as with our friends from Maple Leaf Sports who made their ice rink into a major food production our volunteer delivery team was able to pick up and deliver over 8000 fresh healthy meals to the homes of our most vulnerable kids during the lockdowns. Additionally Families Feeding Families was created by devoted home cooks who were also home for the pandemic who meal planned shopped prepared and delivered over 4400 home cooked meals to vulnerable families throughout the most critical 24 months of the pandemic. By the grace of God and our amazing team of volunteers and small staff by the end of 2021 we had provided over 91 000 healthy dinners to kids throughout the GTA. With many of Ontario's restaurants permanently closed down since the pandemic the remaining restaurants and caterers were not yet in a positon to resume donating meals to our programs. So our meal donor families continued to feed our most vulnerable kids and we continued to feed our downtown Toronto programs thanks to Sanagan's Meat Locker who have continued to provide us with quality meats poultry bread and foodstuffs sourced exclusively from Ontario family farms. Our model is very simple because we ask our partners to do what they do best: Restaurants make food and Hungry kids eat food = Nourished children do better at school and have brighter futures. In order to reach hungry tummies across Canada we needed technology on our side. Thanks to our newest nonprofit partners at the distinguished University of Waterloo in 2023 we were accepted into their BluePrint Initiative which utilizes its skilled student developers and designers to aid other non-profit's technological needs. This team of talented young people built our charity a user-friendly online onboarding Meal-Pairing platform to match meal donors with their local after-school programs. This initiative was entirely FREE for our charity a $500 000+ value donated via in-kind professional services. Our new Meal-Pairing platform will enable us to provide hundreds of thousands of healthy dinner to food-insecure children nationwide.
