THE IRONWOOD PROJECT - PEER SUPPORT FOR SURVIVORS OF CHILDHOOD SEXUAL ABUSE

Ongoing Peer to Peer Support Groups are led by two survivors. Weekly meetings include peer based discussions on the struggles and challenges facing adult survivors of sexual abuse with an emphasis on understanding and overcoming those obstacles. Peer to Peer Support Group - Group One (in-person) - 2 volunteers x 3.5 hours per session per person x 31 sessions = 217 hours Peer to Peer Support Group - Group Two (in-person) - 2 volunteers x 3.5 hours per session per person x 31 weeks = 217 hours Total volunteer hours: 434 Partner and Parent Support Groups are led by one survivor and the partner of a survivor. Monthly meetings include peer based discussions on the struggles and challenges facing partners and parents of adult survivors of sexual abuse with an emphasis on understanding and overcoming those obstacles. Partners and Parents support group (in-person) - 2 volunteers x 3.5 hours per session per person x 10 sessions = 70 hours Total volunteer hours: 70 Community Services training police volunteers in what Ironwood is about and how it can help people in our community Halton Police Victim Services Unit Training - 2 volunteers x 4 hours per volunteer x 1 presentation = 8 hours Total volunteer hours: 8 Art Therapy Sessions for participants including painting and pottery run by volunteers. Art Sessions - 2 volunteers x 3.5 hours per event per volunteer x 2 events = 14 hours Total volunteer hours: 14 Community Outreach at Farmer’s Market - 5 volunteers x 5 hours x 2 events = 50 hours Total volunteer hours: 50 Community Building Holiday Movie Night - 2 volunteers x 4 hours x 2 events = 16 hours Total volunteer hours: 16 Board Meetings held to manage programming volunteers funds and the direction of Ironwood. New Programs Police Investigation Soft Space for Sexual Crime Victims Program was established at Ironwood to allow victims of sexual crimes to be interviewed and disclose in a safe and comfortable space.
