Ongoing programs

ONGOING PROGRAMS Our Emerging Artists Program (19-35) invites participants who are studying or have recently graduated from a performing arts training program to further develop their skills under the mentorship of experienced industry professionals. Participants in the program will be responsible for all aspects of the staging of a musical theatre production including performance stage and production management design and directing budgeting marketing and promotion. ONGOING PROGRAMS Our Emerging Artists Program (19-35) invites participants who are studying or have recently graduated from a performing arts training program to further develop their skills under the mentorship of experienced industry professionals. Participants in the program will be responsible for all aspects of the staging of a musical theatre production including performance stage and production management design and directing budgeting marketing and promotion. The program will also encourage exploration of new repertoire for musical theatre through table reads workshops and developmental projects. This program is appropriate for participants in post-secondary education or those who are launching careers in theatre performance or production. MANY VOICES MANY STORIES - Development of new works by and/or for New Generation (Emerging) Artists In re-imagining our programming and desiring to encourage a new and progressive 'look' on our future stages we unveil our Many Voices Many Stories - telling the untold stories of Canadian history through artistic expressions of workshops and productions and supporting the development of new works by New Generation (Emerging) Artists. The Development of Dario et La Diablesse: A Caribbean Musial by Saskia Louison and Darryl Joseph-Dennie July 2021 is the inaugural season of this program. In 2022 and 2023 we presented a table read then a full production respectively of 'The Storyteller' by Kathleen Mills (based on Seasonal Affective disorder). In 2024 we presented 'Levels the Play' by C J Jura and Abby Grass (based on mitigating racial inequality and destigmatizing gender identification in older teens).

New programs

(ongoing continued) Sponsorship and University Scholarships for emerging artists The pandemic has made it difficult for many performing artists to continue pursuing their dreams. Because of the support from our generous donors we were able to offer two tuition scholarships to support BIPOC identifying students at Sheridan College and McGill University. NST annually supports 1 student scholarship prize of $1 000 for a first-year Sheridan student's tuition support (The Denise Williams scholarship). The final opera performances are performed in a site-specific rural area to allow the rural communities to experience more live performances.
