THE INCORPORATED MINISTRY IN FLEMINGDON PARK

Flemingdon Park Ministry (FPM) builds community through compassionate service and care. Our programs focus on bringing people together to break the barriers of isolation and food insecurity. FPM continues to seek out new and meaningful ways to establish connections within our community and to foster hope and empowerment among those in need. We provide drop-in services 5 days a week to an average of 500 guests per month. We offer snacks a computer lab copier service and an open library filled with books and magazines. We also have a Clothing and Household Items Bank where an average of 50 clients a week especially newcomers and refugees find essential items to cover their most pressing needs. Our urban farm The Common Table produces thousands of kilos of produce that are distributed in the community. Woman from all corners of our community gather for crafts skill-building activities and an opportunity to build a strong and supportive social network. Over 40 Seniors gather for a weekly healthy dose of exercise nutritious food and good conversation. Food and Friendship (community dinners) occurred twice in the year and are sponsored by donors. We averaged around 120 people per event. We run a weekly English Conversation group and a Knitting and Sewing Club for 100+ women per month. Twice a month we receive and distribute around 10 large hampers of fresh bread and pastries. We also deliver backpacks and school supplies for around 70 elementary and 30 secondary students who reside in our neighbourhood. At Christmas time we distribute toys toiletries cleaning products and other items to over 100 families. The Farm education program for youth includes field trips to learn about hydroponics aquaponics rooftop farming and compost systems and workshops about food insecurity seed-saving vermicomposting compost teas and crop planning. The youth also participate in tasks at the farm such as weeding planting and harvesting.
