Ongoing programs
The Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre (HCFBDC)’s purpose is to source and supply food and hygiene products for distribution to the food banks and aid agencies that we serve in Huron and Perth Counties. We also run a monthly Mobile Food Bank program in 6 communities that aren’t currently supported by a local food bank. The Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre (HCFBDC)’s purpose is to source and supply food and hygiene products for distribution to the food banks and aid agencies that we serve in Huron and Perth Counties. We also run a monthly Mobile Food Bank program in 6 communities that aren’t currently supported by a local food bank. HCFBDC has established a purchase and donation network of area growers businesses wholesalers to ensure a reliable flow of quality nutritious foods for delivery via the HCFBDC delivery trucks to our food bank and aid agency clients as well as HCFBDC’s Mobile Food Bank program. We focus on providing nutritious foods including the priority foods of milk eggs fresh produce and meats on a consistent basis. We have rented warehouse space including a walk-in freezer and walk-in cooler to safely store and distribute donated and purchased foods. Alongside our 2 full-time and 1 part-time employees a team of 40 dedicated volunteers provided over 140 hours each week in 2024 so that HCFBDC can operate efficiently and effectively. In 2024 we delivered over 1 million pounds of healthy food to fulfill our mandate of making hunger nonexistent in our communities.
