OTHER SIGHTS FOR ARTISTS' PROJECTS ASSOCIATION

Over 2023-2024 Other Sights continued working on project development for several long-term (3+years) projects: FLEET Statement of Care and Blue Cabin. Currents and Waves Radio continued broadcasting a diverse array of content throughout 2023-2024 with new contributions of music contemporary panel discussions and interviews added into the programming. Intertidal Kinning Festival is a series of talks walks music and workshops that is planned for August 2024 all events will take place in Steveston at the Blue Cabin. Our Sovereign Waterways project continued to be on display at the Blue Cabin throughout 2023-2024. Foreshore programming (multiple events) in partnership with Blue Cabin and Branscombe House in Steveston was delivered throughout 2023-2024. Other Sights developed a five year digital strategy in collaboration with the principals at Denim and Steel who were chosen as lead consultants. Denim and Steel undertook research prepared and delivered surveys and interviewed many of Other Sights’ stakeholders over 2022-2023. The strategy was completed in July of 2023 with actions for implementation taken from summer onwards. FLEET construction began in November 2023 and continued through to April 2024. Completion is anticipated in the summer of 2024. Partnerships with City of Burnaby and Granville Island have enabled the first two sites for FLEET Studios once constructed. Programming for both studios includes local community activations and workshops artist residencies venue rentals for festivals and much more. Other Sights continued contributing as a partner and steering organization for the Blue Cabin Cooperative and Floating Artist Residency.

In 2024 Other Sights will a new daily feature and sub-program of Currents and Waves dedicated to FLEET Mobile Artist Studios exploring sound as heard by resident artists and communities who are working in the studios. Care/Flow Radio will debut in spring of 2025. Two remaining Foreshore Immersive Events are also planned for 2024 to 2025. Sovereign Waterways Public Art Project will be introduced to the new residents where the Blue Cabin will be relocated in September of 2024. The Cabin is moving from its home of three years in Steveston to the docks near Vancouver's Maritime Museum. Programming and collaborations with the cabin will continue and new programming with the Maritime Museum will develop. Other Sights will continue contributing as a partner organization with cabin over the coming year promoting and sharing related programming supporting artists in residence and participating in facilities programming relocation and steering meetings as required.Other Sights will work on hosting 2-3 residencies at the Blue Cabin in 2024-2025 as well as multiple residencies at the two active FLEET studios. Other Sights and FLEET working group continue FLEET programming throughout 2024-2025 and also work towards potentially securing more capital funding to construct one or two additional units.
