Para Sport Education Outreach Programing: experiential learning opportunity for students and staff alike to gain a better understanding of the inclusive nature of para sport. Through an initial introductory presentation students gain knowledge about the importance of physical activity for all they get an opportunity to meet local para-athletes and they acquire a hands-on experience as they jump into para sport equipment and play. This program also offers teachers an opportunity to gain a better understanding of how they can adapt and modify their own class curriculum to meet the needs of students with a disability. National Capital High School Wheelchair Basketball Tournament: Schools from multiple boards come together to compete in a fully inclusive competitive sport opportunity for students of all abilities. This tournament brings together schools from across the National Capital Region and beyond to offer a fully inclusive competitive sport opportunity for students of all abilities. ACO staff work with the school staff and the students to select a diverse and inclusive team to compete in the tournament on behalf of their school. Disability Inclusion Workshops: The focus of the training is to support and encourage social inclusion quality participation and a sense of belonging for all. Student Mentorship/Supervision & Volunteers: ACO supervised Algonquin College students and is grateful for the numerous hours of support from our volunteers. Ottawa Inclusive & Para Sports Expo: adapted & inclusive sport organizations programs adapted sports equipment vendors showcase and demonstrate a wide variety of sports. Expo is open to all ages and abilities and free of charge. Ottawa Abilities Sport Hub: adapted and inclusive sport organizations from the community came together to discuss the creation of a sport 'Hub' dedicated to para and inclusive sport. The ultimate goal of the Hub is to build greater community capacity and strengthen existing organizations. Academy for Student Athlete Development Ottawa Para Sport program was developed to provide student athletes as they strive for success at regional provincial national & international levels of competition. Ottawa Abilities Sport Hub - Abilities Centre Ottawa launched the first in person interactive and collaborative meeting with multiple different adapted and inclusive sport organizations with a goal of building the values and priorities of the Hub in order to build greater capacity strengthen programs and increase inclusive and accessible sport programs in the community. Sled N’ Ed - Para Ice Hockey Tournament for High Schools - New this past school year we partnered again with the athletic leadership students from a local secondary school in hosting the Sled N' Ed Para Ice Hockey Tournament. This is another fully inclusive sports event for high school students. Schools create teams of 10 mixed ability students. The first half of the day is an on-ice education session followed by a round-robin tournament style for the second half of the day. We bring in various para ice hockey athletes from around Ottawa to be celerity coaches for each school's team. They provide all the tips and tricks for their team to succeed throughout the day. New Community Collaborations – Outdoor Play Canada (Breath of Fresh Air Conference) CHEO (Winter Carnival) Queen’s University Ontario Parasport Collective Work/Meetings/Summit. Para Sport Education Programming was expanded into Renfrew County Catholic School Board. Carleton University Collaborations: Introduction of Para Swim program and provided Staff Training and program support for a new Adapted Multi Sport Camp at Carleton University.
