GLOBAL CENTRE FOR PLURALISM

The Centre’s programs inform decisions and actions that advance respect for diversity. By publishing analyses convening educational opportunities and recognizing pluralism leaders the Centre builds understanding of the choices and policies that enable societies to live peacefully and productively with diversity. This year the Centre successfully completed the nominations and due diligence process for 300+ candidates from 64 countries for the 2025 Global Pluralism Award. The Centre co-hosted events featuring our 2023 Award laureates including a live podcast taping of This Being Human at the Aga Khan Museum; a side event at the 17th session of the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and; a high level plenary at PeaceCon in Washington D.C.. The Education Program offered pluralism training and workshops to practitioners from an expanded range of global contexts the development of anti-racism materials for Francophone educators from across Canada and a training program for young leaders in partnership with UNESCO. With 20 Global Pluralism Monitor assessment reports completed or underway the Global Analysis program focussed on utilizing report findings to deepen programming with in-country partners. Engagements in Colombia and Ghana continued with new initiatives underway with partners in Sri Lanka and Malaysia. The Centre also continued to expand its programming in Peace and Conflict with training for teams working on community development initiatives in Afghanistan for journalists in South Sudan and a training and resource on alliance-building for Sudanese civil society organizations. In 2024 the Centre continued to support Indigenous communities in Canada and around the world through events and workshops including cohosting a session for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada with Roe LeMay a leading adult educator on cultural competence and anti-racism. The Centre also successfully delivered online and in-person events amplifying the need for pluralist leadership in the face of global polarization and demonstrating the practical impact of pluralism. These included a TEDx talk delivered by the GCP Secretary General; a public discussion on how to talk across difference in the context of Isreal-Palestine and; events with Heritage Ottawa and with the Senate of Canada.
