Ongoing programs
The Cape Breton Orchestra's educational mandate includes providing opportunities for its 40 members to develop their musical instrumental and ensemble-playing skills while educating the public about composers repertoire genres and music history. There is something unique and special about an orchestra where a piece of music truly only lives when each member contributes their part. Our members include young people interested in pursuing music in higher education graduates of university music programs and music teachers as well as music lovers with all manner of musical backgrounds. The Cape Breton Orchestra's educational mandate includes providing opportunities for its 40 members to develop their musical instrumental and ensemble-playing skills while educating the public about composers repertoire genres and music history. There is something unique and special about an orchestra where a piece of music truly only lives when each member contributes their part. Our members include young people interested in pursuing music in higher education graduates of university music programs and music teachers as well as music lovers with all manner of musical backgrounds. Members of the orchestra work collaboratively to bring music to life supporting one another listening carefully and committing to rehearsals and performance. Community orchestras help to make good communities. We rehearse weekly from September to May each year. We normally perform two concerts per year one in spring and one in winter. We support the musical education of young people by for example providing free student tickets to our concerts participating in Music Monday events or raising funds for awards given to student members moving on to post-secondary music studies.
