SQUAMISH ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION SOCIETY

Discovery Walks: provides guided nature walks at locations in the Squamish Valley suspended since March 2020 because of COVID-19 and now under review. EagleWatch: monitors Bald Eagle population wintering in the Squamish Valley since 1995. Eagle Count: conducts annual single-day winter count of total Bald Eagle population since 1986. Squamish Birders: conduct monthly bird counts in the Squamish Estuary the annual Christmas Bird Count (CBC) and other birding activities since 1991. Biodiversity Squamish: community science project that documents species of non-domesticated flora fauna and other forms of life in the Atl'ka7tsem/Howe Sound UNESCO Biosphere Region. Purple Martin Nest Boxes: installs and maintains Western Purple Martin nest boxes in the Squamish Estuary to support the recovery of this BC blue-listed species. Western Toad Monitoring Project: community science project in collaboration with BC Parks monitors the health of Western Toads breeding at Edith and Fawn Lakes (Alice Lake Provincial Park) to gain a better understanding of the factors that affect breeding timing and success and to mitigate impacts to toads from park users. Garibaldi Springs Western Toad Monitoring Project: community science project in collaboration with District of Squamish monitors the health of Western Toads breeding at former Garibaldi Springs golf course to gain a better understanding of the factors that affect breeding timing and success and to mitigate impacts to toads from park users. Wildlife Connectivity Project: conducts research to develop tools and models to support conservation of biodiversity in the northern part of the Atl'ka7tsem/Howe Sound UNESCO Biosphere Region. Bird-Friendly Squamish: conducts research and promotes conservation of resident and migratory bird populations in Squamish working towards designation by Nature Canada as a Bird Friendly City. .
