SASKATCHEWAN AFRICAN CANADIAN HERITAGE MUSEUM INC.

All programming is intertwined with SACHM mandate to recognize the contribution history and heritage of people of African descent in and for Saskatchewan. Education and partnerships are the main ways all programs are instituted. The programs are 1. Virtual Museum - updating information and adding new. This is an important aspect as this is in essence the Museum which houses the history heritage and contribution of people of African descent over the past one hundred plus years. Includes maintaining information on SACHM website. 2. Education and Outreach - African Canadian/Black History Month in February - providing/sharing information about the history and heritage of African descent people and their contribution to the province of Saskatchewan. This past year SACHM worked with several organizations schools and national organizations in delivering information and entertainment through in-person and virtual means. SACHM partners with organizations to Launch Black History month and to Wrap up the month of February. SACHM will continue to support the Shiloh Baptist Church and Cemetery municipal and provincial Heritage Property by providing monies for maintenance of the historical site although did not this past year. The Children's book that recognizes the first documented person of African descent in the province - Dr. Alfred Shadd has been translated into Cree and Michif. The Youth Program called Afromentorship which mentors African descent youth has completed the term with The Students Commission to provide mentoring services to vulnerable youth. Several organizations collaborated to provide education and events during Black History Month including Education project with a local anti-racism community restaurant. 3. Celebrating Culture and Accomplishments which includes the Newcomer’s Picnic - a family friendly activity that draws attention to the Honouring Tree a public Art Piece erected to recognize the African American homesteaders and settlers of 1910 occurred in conjunction with Canada Day celebrations. 4. Cultural Village an ongoing July 1 Canada Day program sponsored by SACHM involving several ethnic cultures performing artistic genre occurred with 19 groups/individuals performing. 5. A celebration of Kwanzaa principles are held once a year on December 26 at which time young people and others are given an opportunity to perform. It was provided in person and virtually this past year with recognition of the late George Reed.
