THE BOARD DECIDED TO CLOSE THE INTERPRETIVE CENTRE IN 2023 DUE TO STAFF SHORTAGES AND NEEDED REPAIRS. WE DID REOPEN IN 2024. OUR INTERPRETIVE CENTRE WAS OPEN TO PROVIDE EDUCATION TO THE PUBLIC AS TO THE IMPORTANCE OF MIGRATING SHOREBIRDS. WE EDUCATE PEOPLE BY GIVING TOURS OF THE CHAPLIN LAKE AREA AND WE HAVE INVESTED IN MULTI MEDIA FOR OUR INTERPRETIVE CENTRE SO WE CAN CONTINUE TO EDUCATE OUR VISITORS AND THOSE WHO TAKE TOURS ON THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SPECIES THAT VISIT OUR AREA AND THE IMPORTANCE OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND FEEDING AREAS TO THE MIGRATING BIRDS. WE LAUNCHED SOME PROGRAMS GEARED TO EDUCATING SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN AND THE VISITING PUBLIC OF THE IMPORTANCE OF THE AREA TO THOUSANDS OF MIGRATING SHOREBIRDS AS A FEEDING AND NESTING SITE. THE SURROUNDING GRASSLAND IS ALSO HOME TO MANY NATIVE SPECIES OF PLANTS AND GRASSES. THE ENDANGERED PIPING PLOVER IS ONE OF THE MANY SHOREBIRDS THAT NEST IN OUR AREA.
