CHPTA maintains interprets and protects approximately 15 km of extremely popular public use active transportation trails including 6.5 Km of Trans Canada Trail within the Halifax Regional Municipality. CHPTA also operates manages interprets and protects the 174 acres of the Cole Harbour Heritage Park. CHPTA maintains interprets and protects approximately 15 km of extremely popular public use active transportation trails including 6.5 Km of Trans Canada Trail within the Halifax Regional Municipality. CHPTA also operates manages interprets and protects the 174 acres of the Cole Harbour Heritage Park. Activities include working to overcome the impacts of erosion from storms and rising sea level; resurfacing trails and trimming incurring vegetation; trail patrols by volunteer Trail Stewards to provide a safe and informative experience for users; provision and maintenance of pit toilets dog waste bags and garbage collection; coordinating with non-profit groups offering programs or races on the trails; provides a building for group use; works with numerous trail user groups government agencies and volunteers; experiencing the trails with disability representatives to determine improvements needed; children's content through the Wild Child Forest School; maintenance of a Little Free Library; implementation of a Trail Warden training programs to fill a gap caused by the departure of the NS Trails Federation from training activities. Trail Wardens and volunteers on maintenance work parties contribute about 3000 hours annually.
