THEATRE REPLACEMENT SOCIETY

In our 2023-2024 fiscal year Theatre Replacement was able to run all of our ongoing programs for and with the community. In July 2023 our PantoLand and PantoTown camps were able to run in full for the first time since the pandemic welcoming over 80 children between the ages of 5 and 13 to play and create including 20 children attending in fully subsidized scholarship spots through a partnership with the Vancouver School Board and support from The Youssef-Warren Foundation. Our final iteration of the biennial New Aesthetics Performance Intensive also ran in July 2023. It has been a beloved program over many summers and the company is now pivoting to offer a new summer program for artists in the coming years. TR presented the 11th annual East Van Panto over the 2023 holiday season. This year's production East Van Panto: Beauty and the Beast presented by The Cultch welcomed over 16 000 audience members over seven weeks and over 2 000 free and subsidized tickets were given away through the Cultch Connects program. The production was once again filmed and distributed for in-home viewing as well. PushOFF our annual festival of contemporary performance works by Vancouver and Canadian artists was re-named HOLD ON LET GO marking the growth and evolution of the program over the last number of years. The program ran for two weeks for the very first time and welcomed the most audience ever to the Russian Hall with 1 082 attendees and 271 free tickets/passes distributed. 28 artists/companies were presented at the festival.

The company toured artistic work Through My Lens by Amy Amantea with direction by TR Co-Founder and Associate Artist James Long to the Undercurrents Festival in Ottawa ON in February 2024. Amy is an artist and photographer living with blindness who shares her photography work with audience members in this piece having them describe her work images she has never 'seen' back to her. 98 attendees saw the piece (almost max. attendance) and a talkback and touch tour was held for the blind community. Artistic Director Maiko Yamamoto and longtime collaborator and TR Associate Artist Veda Hille began development on a brand new artistic work End of Greatness which will premiere in Vancouver in 2025. Artistic work New Age Attitudes: Live in Concert by Amanda Sum with direction by TR AD Maiko Yamamoto went on a two-city tour to the Yukon Arts Centre in Whitehorse YK and the Klondike Centre for Performing Arts in Dawson City YK in April 2024. 95 attendees experienced the piece and Amanda also taught a music workshop to local high school aged youth in both locations.
