NOW IN A NEW PHASE OF OUR SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM THE 'TURER ABANA PROGRAM' IS AIMING TO KEEP RUBAVU’S MOST VULNERABLE CHILDREN IN SCHOOL AND TO SUPPORT THEIR LEARNING BY STRENGTHENING FAMILIES AND HOME ENVIRONMENTS THROUGH TRAINING 234 VILLAGE-LEVEL FAMILY COACHES WHILE TRAINING AND COACHING SCHOOL LEADERS AT 23 SCHOOLS TO LEAD AND CREATE A NURTURING HEALTHY AND PROTECTIVE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT AND TO COORDINATE AND FACILITATE IN-SCHOOL TEACHER TRAINING FOR THEIR TEAMS. THE WORDS ‘TURERE ABANA’ MEAN ‘TOGETHER WE NURTURE AND RAISE CHILDREN’. DURING THE 23/24 ACADEMIC YEAR (UNTIL JULY 24) CONTINUED OUR FOCUS ON SOCIO-EMOTIONAL LEARNING FOR STUDENTS AT 55 SCHOOLS IN SEVEN DISTRICT DURING THERE FIRST YEAR OF SECONDARY SCHOOL THROUGH THE YOUTH FIRST PROGRAM. FOR THE ACAEMIC YEAER 24/25 (FROM SEP 24) THE PROGRAM WAS REDUCED TO 34 SCHOOLS ACROSS 4 DISTRICTS. WE COMPLETED A MILTI-FACETED FOLLOW UP STUDY OF OUR PROGRAM IMPACT EVALUATION WHICH PROVIDED VERY POSITIVE RESULTS. THROUGHOUT 2024 WE COLLABORATED WITH RWANDA BASIC EDUCATION BOARD (UNER THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION) TO DEVELOP A LONGER-TERM STRATEGY FOR STUDENT WELLBEING COLLABORATING TO HELP YOUTH BE EQUIPPED FOR FUTURE EMPLOYMENT AND TO OVERCOME THE IMPACT OF GENERATIONAL TRAUMA BY ENHANCING THEIR SKILLS FOR SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL HEALTH RESILIENCE CONFIDENCE AND CHARACTER.
