Ongoing programs

For over 40 years the award-winning Phoenix Chamber Choir has provided British Columbians with exceptional innovative and dynamic choral concert experiences featuring primarily a cappella contemporary works of both Canadian and international composers. For over 40 years the award-winning Phoenix Chamber Choir has provided British Columbians with exceptional innovative and dynamic choral concert experiences featuring primarily a cappella contemporary works of both Canadian and international composers. The choir’s mandate is to build and sustain a mixed choral chamber ensemble that presents a wide range of repertoire at the highest level of musical achievement in concert and through recordings to British Columbia Canada and the world. Each season the choir performs its own concert series of a minimum of three performances in Vancouver and performs collaborative and run-out concerts in other local communities with further performances including benefit concerts outreach concerts special events and broadcasts on social media and radio. The Phoenix Chamber Choir offers an elite-level choral experience to the most talented and accomplished choral artists in the region regardless of their status as professional or non-professional musicians. Given members’ lifelong commitment to the choral arts Phoenix has a special dedication to providing education and mentorship opportunities to young choral singers directors composers and their teachers. Over the past several seasons Phoenix has introduced a variety of events and programs intended to improve access to the arts for young people and to encourage and support the development of young choral musicians and to enrich the future choral community of British Columbia. These events include Online Tutorials and Workshops New Music Commissions the Student Choral Composition Competition and our Assistant Conductor mentorship program. Via the use of technology Phoenix has continued to navigate and foster a growing audience of choral music through various online platforms including collaborations with singers throughout North America online workshops for educators and members of the public open virtual rehearsals and webinars. We have also continued a new virtual ensemble Vox Panacea for treble-voiced physicians and medical students in British Columbia.
