Ongoing programs
Oak Bay Volunteer Services Society (OBVS) provides free one-to-one services and programs to help improve or maintain independent living. Services support the needs of older adults individuals living with physical and/or mental health challenges individuals living in low income individuals living in isolation and other complex needs. Our services incorporate elements of transportation assistance companionship and home maintenance. Oak Bay Volunteer Services Society (OBVS) provides free one-to-one services and programs to help improve or maintain independent living. Services support the needs of older adults individuals living with physical and/or mental health challenges individuals living in low income individuals living in isolation and other complex needs. Our services incorporate elements of transportation assistance companionship and home maintenance. Current services include: drives to medical appointments grocery shopping recreation and other errands shopping with delivery of groceries and medication social and wellness check phone calls home visits walks in the community light gardening technology support and minor home repairs. Our programming includes income tax support through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program fresh meal delivery for seniors through the More Than Meals Program housekeeping support through the Better at Home program and seasonal snow and ice removal through our Snow Angels Program. In 2023-2024 OBVS delivered 4 688 services to 549 clients through the support of 175 dedicated volunteers.
New programs
In our 2023-2024 fiscal year we introduced two new service including Cultural Companions where folks are matched with a companion to enjoy arts and cultural outings and Destination Walks in which a volunteer with someone to an errand or appointment.
