Little Chamber Music provides public access to the performing arts creating new cultural content and presenting that content at free accessible inclusive public live music and arts events in unusual places around Vancouver. Little Chamber creates events that present the finest professional artists as well as creating community engaged events that let the public create art with skilled practitioners. All of our events are free inclusive and accessible. We believe that removing barriers to the arts includes financial barriers and that offering music and arts at the highest possible level at no cost for the community ensures we will have people join us who otherwise wouldn't. In the last few years No Straight Road marked the 50th anniversary of the legalization of homosexuality in Canada Human Shadow Etched in Stone examined the Hiroshima atrocity and Roots of the East brought together Vancouver’s Middle Eastern community to share popular songs from Egypt Syria Iraq and Palestine. For 8 years we have been in residence at Mountain View Cemetery the only cemetery in the city of Vancouver and we have learned a great deal about connecting performances and events to the geography we're working on and how to welcome the public to events that have unfamiliar structures. We've created several works meant to foster a more open conversation about death grief and mortality; natural subjects for our setting but also many projects not connected to death using the cemetery as a public greenspace. Little Chamber Music's priority work has always been our projects that combine music composition and performance with community engaged arts. Projects that have engaged in unique and meaningful ways include East Side Animals 11 Summer Solstice at Mountain View Cemetery (2015-2019) Centum Corpora WW75 and Temporary Steps. Engaging community members on a creative level as a regular part of our practice and a regular part of our large scale projects has led to an evolution of our methodologies and goals and made us unique among music organizations.
