PACIFIC RIM HOSPICE SOCIETY

The Pacific Rim Hospice Society (PRHS) is a community hospice that enhances the quality of life for individuals and families in the Pacific Rim region during illness injury death and grief through education and compassionate care. Services are available for youth and adults and are provided at no cost. PRHS operates in the Pacific Rim region which includes: Tofino Ucluelet ACRD - Area-C and five Indigenous communities: Ahousaht Hitacu Esowista Ty-histanis Opitsaht Hot Springs Cove and Macoah. Some of the ongoing services PRHS provides are: one to one grief support and counselling for youth and adults; end of life support for individuals who are dying; support for their loved ones; respite for loved ones supporting an individual with a serious illness; caregiver support; grief education for youth in schools; a book lending library; assistance borrowing equipment such as walkers shower chairs etc.; end of life education; advance care planning events and one to one support; and volunteer training and workshops throughout the year. Shelter in a Storm - a seven- week grief group offered multiple times throughout the year; Peer Educator Program is offered at least once a year - a seven-week program for youth to learn how to support their friends through grief and loss relationships parent challenges/divorce; healthy communication and where to seek help in the community. The Pacific Rim Better at Home Program part of the community based senior services sector for anyone aged 55 years + continued to grow and expand providing non-medical home supports such as transportation to medical appointments volunteer visitors help with groceries food security including a warm meal delivery program to vulnerable individuals in order to help older adults/elders remain independent in their homes. Volunteers are an integral part of Hospice care. There were 27 volunteers providing support to clients on our board of directors or helping with events. The total volunteer hours in 2024 were: 2215.
