Ongoing programs Gilda’s Toronto is a cancer support community where individuals impacted by cancer - adults children and teens as well as their families & friends become part of a welcoming community of support. Our vast array of programs are designed to meet the emotional social & practical needs of individuals with cancer-related stress. Membership and all programs are offered at no charge. Traditional Adult Support Groups: Facilitated by mental health professionals groups include: 20s & 30s Living With Cancer Adult Bereavement Friends and Family and a group focused on supporting the transition through recovery into wellness and a new normal. Child and Youth Programming: Support for children who have someone in their life with cancer and grief support for children who have lost someone to cancer. We also offer creative programming such as our documentary filmmaking program for teens and summer camp to support kids through the difficulties of understanding a cancer diagnosis in their family or community. Nutrition and Wellness: A variety of wellness groups including healthy nutrition workshops and culinary demonstrations therapeutic yoga mindfulness and a variety of fitness programs. Gilda’s Toronto offers a holistic approach to support and care for our members navigating a cancer diagnosis. One-on-one programs Careful Steps: one-on-one guidance to parents/guardians who are concerned about the impact their cancer diagnosis and treatment may have on their children/youth. Prep Talk: A one-on-one counselling program to review treatment planning basics choosing a treatment team setting goals and treatment options. Resources and Referrals: Materials and assistance in navigating other community resources available. Gilda’s Toronto continues to offer programs exclusively online to create a virtual community of support. Since April 2020 Members connect virtually to all programs including education physical activity and support groups from the comfort of their own homes. This thriving virtual community has become for some the only connection to emotional support the only outlet for physical exercise and the only place to meet others who can relate to their feelings of isolation fear and anxiety.
