NORTHUMBERLAND FISHERIES MUSEUM AND HERITAGE ASSOCIATION

The Northumberland Fisheries Museum maintains a collection of artifacts documents photographs and miscellanea pertaining to the history and culture of the fishery along the North Shore of Nova Scotia and those parts of the Northumberland Straight shared by Nova Scotia Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick. The museum organizes an annual temporary exhibit that interprets the collection and the mandate of the museum that incorporates materials from the collection in conjunction with the work of artists photographers and/or researchers as part of its animation education and interpretation activities. The NFM also houses the Lighthouse Research Centre and the Rip Irwin collection of photographs and other documentation on the lighthouses of Nova Scotia. the museum is open 7 days a week from June through August and by appointment for the remainder of the year. The museum also hosted special events and other activities throughout the year which include activity camps for children paint nights for adults family events and social activities such as an opening event for the summer program. The museum also welcomed students and researchers who wished to access the collection..
