Diabetes is one of the fastest growing chronic diseases in Canada with more than four million people living with diabetes in this country. It is a complex chronic condition that impacts a person’s health and overall life in profound ways. That’s why improving the quality of life for people with diabetes is Diabetes Canada’s aspiration. To achieve this we have five main priorities: 1. Being an international leader in developing and disseminating Clinical Practice Guidelines to health-care providers across Canada to bring the latest research findings to healthcare providers so that they can support optimal diabetes care and self-management. 2. Funding research that aims to unlock new insights and breakthroughs in the field of diabetes management and care prevention and even work towards a cure. 3. Fighting for the rights of those affected by diabetes through advocacy to all levels of government ensuring people have access to the right treatments and care at the right time. 4. Helping those with diabetes live healthier lives through education programs our toll-free support line and our D-Camps programs that connect children and youth living with type 1 diabetes and 5. Changing the conversation around diabetes through public education and awareness campaigns that tackle the stigma around this often-misunderstood condition. We are supported in our efforts by a community-based network of volunteers donors employees health-care providers researchers and partners in our vision to create a world free of the effects of diabetes.
