CHAPTER ONE CANADA

High Impact Tutoring: Chapter One's specially trained Early Literacy Interventionists (ELIs) use proprietary software to deliver daily face-to-face 1:1 high-impact phonics and reading fluency instruction. In addition to helping children learn to read in under-resourced classrooms Chapter One also provides high-impact reading tutoring to children at home on families' smartphones ensuring accessibility and continuity of learning even in remote and isolated communities. (This program bridges gaps in education reduces barriers to reading support and provides children with equal opportunity to succeed helping those at risk of reading failure achieve grade-level reading proficiency and fostering a lifelong love of learning.) Online Reading Volunteers: Employees in companies that donate to Chapter One can safely contribute 30 minutes each week during the school year at a reading station Chapter One installs in participating Kindergarten to Grade 4 classrooms. As remote reading buddies sharing a screen and audio connection using Chapter One's online platform they read stories and play word games together helping to build confidence and reading for pleasure. Chapter One provides webinar training for volunteers facilitates their district-mandated police background checks and manages everything on the school side. (This program connects children with caring professionals who encourage their reading development and motivation.) Original Indigenous e-Storybooks. Chapter One Canada is developing a series of original e-storybooks co-created with the Indigenous communities it serves. Themes are identified by Indigenous education leaders and advance Indigenous priorities perspectives and world views. Leveled for early readers the stories are brought to life by Indigenous writers and illustrators. To support the communities’ language revitalization efforts Chapter One records native speakers pronouncing foundatiional words in the communites' first languages and embeds these audio clips into the e-books. This way students families teachers tutors and volunteers can explore some of the original language and culture of the communities together while helping young children learn to read. The books are available online for free to everyone in the Global Free Library at library.chapterone.org/#/en-CA.
