A NEW EDUCATIONAL ANGLING PLATFORM IN WIIKWEMKOONG UNCEDED TERRITORY WAS INSTALLED. SPRING/SUMMER GARBAGE AND PLASTIC CLEANUPS; PHRAGMITES AND INVASVISE SPECIES REMOVAL COMPLETED. EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH WAS CONDUCTED AT COMMUNITY EVENTS TO PROVIDE INVASIVE SPECIES AWARENESS PROMOTE TREE PLANTING PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL STREAM TOURS AND AWARENESS ABOUT OUR STREAM RESTORATION INITIATIVE. EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH WAS CONDUCTED AT COMMUNITY EVENTS TO PROVIDE INVASIVE SPECIES AWARENESS PROMOTE TREE PLANTING PROVIDING EDUCATIONAL STREAM TOURS AND AWARENESS ABOUT OUR STREAM RESTORATION INITIATIVE. A YOUTH RANGER PROGRAM WAS INITIATED TO PROMOTE YOUTH TO BECOME ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDS OF THE LAND. AN OUTDOOR/ANGLING INTERACTIVE MAP WAS MAINTAINED FOR MANITOULIN ISLAND WITH INFORMATION ON (LAKES FISH SPECIES ACCOMMODATIONS BOAT LAUNCHES AND MARINAS FUEL GROCERY STORES AND BUSINESSES SUPPORTING THE FISHING INDUSTRY). AN INTERN WAS HIRED TO PREPARE AND ORGANIZE AN OUTDOOR/ANGLING TRADE FAIR WHICH WAS HELD ON MAY 17-19 2024.
New programs
AN RFP FOR A SITE DESIGN AND SITE SUPERVISION FOR 2 NEW PROJECTS TO WORK ON BLUE JAY CREEK SITE B29 AND MANITOU RIVER SITE MIN 616 WAS SENT OUT AND SUCCESSFUL CONTRACTS SIGNED OFF. THESE PROJECTS ARE PLANNED TO BE COMPLETED IN SUMMER OF 2025 DEPENDANT ON FUNDING. EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH AND STEWARDSHIP ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE STREAM TOURS ISLAND WIDE GARBAGE CLEANUP OF GARBAGE AND PLASTICS PHRAGMITES AND INVASIVE SPECIES REMOVAL NATIVE TREE AND SHRUB PLANTING WITH COMMUNITY MEMBERS.
