SANDRA SCHMIRLER OLYMPIC PARK

Our charity maintains the Sandra Schmirler Olympic Gold Park in the community of Biggar that honors the curling accomplishments of Sandra Schmirler. The park provides a venue for many activities in our community. Our park is part of the grounds of the schools in the community. The playground is used daily by students attending school. The gazebo and walking paths provide a venue for activities such as the Biggar Boogie and the Terry Fox run. There are also a number of school activities that take place in the park. The walking paths are used daily by walkers of all ages. The town’s Christmas light put display put on by the town and local business is located along the walking path. The park is maintained by a student that works part time and volunteers. The maintenance of the park involves cutting and trimming the grass planting flowers weeding trimming trees watering and fertilizing the grass and trees. In the winter volunteers use a snowblower to clear the trails. The employee and volunteer are are responsible to see that the equipment used to maintain the r park is well maintained and safe for use. The employee and volunteers will spend approximately 300 hours a year working on the park.
