CANADIAN FEDERATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN/NORTHUMBERLAND SCHOLARSHIP TRUST

CFUW-Northumberland (CFUW-N) awards scholarships and bursaries to female students in Northumberland County to assist them in pursuing further education as follows: 6 annual scholarships one through each of the six Northumberland County high schools; one annual scholarship to a First Nations Metis or Inuit secondary school student at Trent University; one annual scholarship to a student at Fleming College; and bursaries are awarded through an endowment fund adminstered by Trent University on behalf of CFUW-N. In 2021-2022 on a trial basis we offered bursaries for female students entering apprenticeship programs through five of the six Northumberland County high schools. Three were awarded. In 2022-2023 and in 2023-2024 we awarded six one-time scholarships through the six Northumberland County high schools to female students entering apprenticeship programs. The membership approved making an annual donation to two local libraries for books either in memory of CFUW-N members and active past members who have passed away during the fiscal year or as a donation from CFUW-N if no members were lost during the fiscal year. As volunteers our members are active in local provincial national and international advocacy activities and group. At in-person events we ask attendees to donate to a specific charity like Cornerstone a women's shelter. The monies collected are given directly to the charity who provide official tax receipts to donors as appropriate.
