Ongoing programs

Free one-on-one and small group tutoring for adults working on grade 12 courses trades courses seniors learning essential & basic technology skills. We offer free ESL classes for newcomers to Canada and provide free tax filing clinics to modest income earners on Haida Gwaii. We also offer free webinars like Microsoft Office skills to islanders. We mailed out a total of 750 free books last year to children under age 5 through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library a monthly book delivery program. We also donated 100 books (a $155 value) to newborns (through a Welcome Babies book program) and to 3- and 5-year-olds at the local health screening fairs held by Northern Health and the Indigenous Health Centers managed by Old Massett Village Band and Skidegate Band Councils. In the 2023-2024 fiscal year we donated: - $1 000 to School District 50 to aid their organization of the Early Learning Forum a Pro-D learning event for early childhood providers on Haida Gwaii. - $1 000 each to Skidegate Haida Language program and Xaad Kil Nee Old Massett Haida Language program. Both communities work with Elders to revitalize the Haida language. - $300 to Island Wellness Society’s CCRR program to fund their Summer Family Storywalk project
