Ongoing programs

The Riverwood Conservancy is a charity that provides programs and direction for Riverwood - the 150 acre urban nature preserve situated on the shores of the Credit RIver in Mississauga. Working together with like-minded groups and individuals our mission is to enable people of all cultures ages and abilities to respectfully connect with nature and learn about the importance of protecting conserving and restoring natural spaces for the well-being of future generations and to inspire them with the beauty of the Riverwood gardens. The Riverwood Conservancy is a charity that provides programs and direction for Riverwood - the 150 acre urban nature preserve situated on the shores of the Credit RIver in Mississauga. Working together with like-minded groups and individuals our mission is to enable people of all cultures ages and abilities to respectfully connect with nature and learn about the importance of protecting conserving and restoring natural spaces for the well-being of future generations and to inspire them with the beauty of the Riverwood gardens. Specific ongoing programming: Education Naturally Elementary programming virtual and in-person offered to the public and separate school boards and home schoolers. Programs range from Insects and Needs of Living Things (K-Gr 1) to Climate Change and Water Systems (Gr 7-8). Art and Gardening enrichment is offered. 2024 – 6 453 participants. Environmental Camps (March Break and Summer) Camps provide kids up to Grade 6 with exciting and fun nature experiences. 2024 – 92 Participants. Therapeutic Horticulture Programming that connects nature activities to individuals with special needs. Offered onsite at TRC’s Enabling Garden as well as offsite and virtually. Programs can be tailored to needs and abilities. 2024 - 998 participants. Mini/Junior Naturalists Club A multi-session program offering children (ages 3-5) and youth (grades 1 to 8) a range of experiences in nature. The program is offered at Riverwood as well as offsite spaces including Rattray Marsh Erindale Park and UTM. 2024- 92 participants. Discovery@Riverwood Our public education programming with topics ranging from nighttime nature walks to birding to ecopsychology delivered by staff and a range of partners. Delivered largely in-person with some virtual programming. 2024- 6000 participants. Other ongoing - Gardening groups Trail Ambassadprs Invasive Species Task Force Conservation Summer Stewardship Program for high school students Nature Babies Riverwood Explorers (special needs camp) Jingtamok (annual Indigenous community social) Full Moon Ceremonies (monthly evening circles for Indigenous and non-Indigenous women) and Culture@Riverwood summer evening concert series.
